Abstract

This article aims to analyze the problem of teaching

housing design in higher education in times of COVID-
19. To do this, it will focus on analyzing a series of

case studies to understand the housing problem at a
general level and to understand the conditions in
which this subject is taught, under the new guidelines
given as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.
For this reason, it takes as a starting point the analysis
of self-built houses in the Northern Cone of Lima and
then gives an account of the professionals in charge of
working with this problem, analyzing the teaching they
are given in higher education as part of their studies.
of architecture, in the search to train trained people
who can understand the true magnitude of this
situation and propose alternatives. In addition, the
issue of teaching housing to these professionals is
addressed, taking as considerations the new
conditions that arise in the 21st century as a result of
the Coronavirus pandemic that will condition housing
and housing education. Finally, it is concluded that the
main problems that aggravate informal housing are
vulnerability and habitability, two parameters that must
determine the physical security of the home and its
conditions of use. In addition, there is a lack of criteria
and pedagogies on the part of the professionals who
exercise the work of teaching in the universities and
this is very noticeable in more demanding careers
such as architecture.
